| 9.4.2000 - The Marshans have taken over! | |
| A name change was inevitable,
and the band formerly knows as Dying Sun is
now officially Marshan.
Since our change of direction, we have had a lot of interest from all directions. We will make the most of this by recording a CD with acclaimed producer Dave Chang, known for his work with Orange Goblin, Acrimony, Hangnail, and many others. We are booked in to record with him at Philia Studios from October 9th to October 13th 2000. To get the lowdown of Marshan and keep up with new happenings, hop on over to http://burieddreams.com/marshan. Keep on grooving... |

| 23.6.99 - Dying Sun now a four-piece!! | |
| Sunday the 20th of June heralded a new era for Dying Sun. After two years
with vocalist Mark Keddie, it was mutually agreed to split with him due to musical
differences. The next few months will be an exciting time for the band, as we evolve into
the melodic stoner band which we should be. Will it work or wont it? You'll find out soon! |

Sun. The new demo 'nondescript?' is now available (go to the songs section), and we should be getting
reviews in for it soon. It is available by post (£2.50 + postage), and also as a free
download from the website in both MP3 and RealAudio formats. I've updated the pictures section so that it loads much quicker. All the pics are now thumbnails, and you can select which you wish to see in more detail. It uses a special system, to display any pic in one html page, more efficiend and quicket to load. We'll be spreading our doom and gloom in Edinburgh over the festive season, look out for us at the Wilkie House (207 Cowgate) on Sunday the 27th of December playing with Substate and Planet Caravan.
Our first gig of the new year is at Strawberry Fields in Glasgow (56 Oswald Street) on Wednesday the 20th of January where we will unveil our new demo. |
|
| 9.11.98 - Next studio demo booked | |
We have booked into the studio to record our second demo in December (19/20/21). It will probably be either three or four tracks long, and this time will only be available on CD. A title has still to be decided, but "nondescript?" has been suggested. |

The first review of our Prime Ordeal demo has come through, and is very favourable. Read it here. |
|
| 20.8.98 - Gig disasters | |
Scott is going to New York in September, which has unfortunately meant we had to refuse a cool gig we were offered a few weeks ago. Today I was asked to play another gig, support to UK band Serenade who are touring the UK for their second album, on the 13th of September. This is again while Scott is away, but we're discussing whether or not we could perhaps play the gig without him. Wait and see. |
|
| 20.8.98 - Does our popularity have no bounds? | |
The last couple of weeks have been a bit weird; we've found out about a few groups of people who seem to like us a lot, and they don't even know us! A DJ at The Mission in Edinburgh played our CD last weekend and must have got a good response, because they have offered us a good gig. Soon it will be played in Glasgow also. Oh, and we found out that a video of us has been sent to someone in London. We have no idea who sent it or to where unfortunately. |
|
| 20.8.98 - How the gigs went | |
What a week it has been... Firstly, the Arena gig went really well. There was around 200 people in attendance, including the Evening Times who featured a story about it on the following Monday: report to follow. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it the night it was. Unfortunately my bass 'broke' on the night and I had to borrow one from JYSM: many thanks, and sorry for having to re-tune it. |
|
| 10.8.98 - Gig in Glasgow - Tuesday 18th August | |
We are playing at the Cavern Bar (Strathclyde Union) on John Street. Supporting will be Valderrama (Mark's former band) and My Legendary Girlfriend. |
|
| 12.7.98 - Gig in Glasgow - Thursday 13th August | |
We will be playing at the Arena with JYSM, Pig God, and another band. We have asked to go on first, so you'll need to be there by 9pm. For tickets, please email me. We may be appearing on a new Ch4 TV show called 'A Young Persons Guide To Becoming A Rockstar', representatives of which will be coming along to the gig. We'll keep you posted... |
|
| 12.7.98 - Mark's goatee in shock split!!! | |
In a shock press release issued just after midnight last night, it has been announced that Mark Keddie's goatee has left Dying Sun to "pursue other interests". In a prepared statement read out by a lawyer representing Mr Keddie's three-pronged beard, it was stated that the goatee was "unhappy at my unappreciated role within the Dying Sun organisation... treated as mere facefuzz rather than a valued member of the band". In response, a rushed statement was released just minutes later, by a lawyer on behalf of the remaining members of Dying Sun. It read thus; "While we are sorry to see the departure of Mark's goatee from pastures crusty to pastures new, we shall, however, endeavour to carry on without it for the foreseeable future. We hope that we may be able to work with Mark's goatee again at some point in the future, on a more amicable level". ...Hope remains for a string of reunion gigs then. We'll keep you posted. Rumours of a solo goatee project with George Michael, are, we hear, complete speculation on the part of UK tabloid newspapers. |
|
| 11.7.98 - Comment from the gig: | |
Apparently when we played Once Solemn (Paradise Lost cover) someone on the crowd said 'They play it better then Paradise Lost' !! |
|
| 10.6.98 - Gig in Glasgow - Thursday 25th June | |
We have arranged for Dying Sun and two other bands (JYSM, The Badly Decomposed) at The Arena in Glasgow. Doors open at 8:30pm, first band probably on at 9pm. For tickets, please email me. |
|
| 19.5.98 - Damn | |
We were offered a support slot with Canadian Sabbath soundalikes sHeavy, but unfortunately we've have to turn it down due to prior commitments. |
|
| 27.4.98 - Gig in Falkirk - Friday 8th May | |
We will be playing at The Engine Room in Falkirk on Friday the 8th of May. Churn will also be there, and another band. Tickets are £2.50 I think, and anyone in Glasgow who wants to come along should get in contact with anyone in the band - we'll probably be taking a minibus. For those who don't know, The Engine Room is the upstairs of a pub called Pennies & Changes apparently. Grangemouth Road, Falkirk. |
|
| 2.3.98 - Supporting Orange Goblin | |
We are now supporting Orange Goblin on Monday 16th March at the 13th Note café (King Street). Tickets £3 from the band. |
|
| 2.3.98 - Demo finished | |
The demo is now complete but it'll be a few weeks until we can get it duplicated. The title is 'Prime Ordeal', and it contains all six tracks named below. |
|
| 13.2.98 - First studio demo to be recorded | |
On the 28th of February and 1st of March we will be entering the studio to record our first proper demo. As yet it is untitled, but should contain our original five songs: 'The Bitter Memory', 'As The Snow Falls', 'Sorrow's Smile', 'Faithless' and 'Betrayal'. Time permitting, there may be an extra track, 'Cold Blood'. |
|
| 21.1.98 - Nice 'n' Sleazy gig | |
Despite sound problems and being forced to shorten our set, I had a great time and felt the night went quite well. For once we had a good drum kit to play on as The Blood Divine allowed us to use theirs. |
|
| 12.1.98 - Cancellation | |
Had to cancel the gig at The Cavern due to Malky injuring his foot playing football :( |
